Orthopedic Shoes and a Walker

I know I speak for all you mommy's out there when I say that as mommy's we all want the best for our kids.  When they're sad, or something's not right we try to fix it right?  That's why about 6 weeks ago I spoke with my pediatrician about the fact that Reece, who was 13 months at the time, wasn't even pulling herself up to stand.
Now Reecey seems to be on her own time table anyways as far as development goes.  She was late rolling over, late sitting, and late crawling but I was thinking this was super late to not even be standing.  As it turned out my pediatrician agreed with me and put a call into Kids on the Move, a program run through the local school district that works with children up to 3 on anything from speech to motor skills.
After an evaluation the therapist determined that Princess Reecey has some sensory issues in her feet and doesn't like what it feels like to stand.  They gave us some exercises to do with her to help and within 2 weeks she was pulling herself up to stand.
When they came back yesterday for her first therapy session they were pleased at her progress but still feel like they need to work with her until she is all caught up in her gross motor skills.  Apparently she is in like the third percentile for her gross motor development for her age.
They left us with some things to help...namely..."orthopedic" shoes and a walker!

So they're not really orthopedic shoes but they do give her some support in her arch so she'll stop putting weight on the insides of her feet.  Even though she's standing and even cruising a little its hilarious to watch cause she HATES what it feels like and will turn her feet in or out so she doesn't have to feel on the entire surface of her foot.

Cute little special girl with her walker.  Notice her foot turned in?  That's what I mean!

Mid topple.  She really hates the walker but she DESPISES the shoes.

Trying to get her to cruise gaps yesterday in her therapy session.

Betsy, her cute therapist.

ps--Its totally okay to laugh at Reecey's specialness.  I think its pretty funny.  But I do feel bad for her and have to admit that I am a little worried.  I think I'll have TJ give her a blessing to give her that extra help!

NOW AS PROMISED......

Jackson's Braces!

Before

After!

We have about 6-9 months with his first round of ortho.  Then he'll have holding arches until all his adult teeth come in and then back to braces for another 18-24 months!

stay tuned for...the new tradition and our basement!

It's so sad to see her in the orthopedic shoes and walker. She looks like those poor little kids that always have to walk with a walker because of permanent issues. I'm so glad that this isn't a permanent issue. I had a special baby too, she'll get caught up soon! Jack looks thrilled to have braces. Poor guy! Hopefully the time goes fast. I can't wait to see the basement and hear the new tradition. I keep forgetting to ask you about it.

I am totally laughing at Reecey's specialness, but it is so sad. I love her. Jack is adorable in his braces. And finally I am mad at google reader and the fact that it doesn't update for private blogs!

Poor Reecey! She's still adorable and she'll catch up. I think it's funny how she stands on the inside of her feet. Jack - the braces will be over before you know it.

I LOVE that picture of Reece with the turned foot! She looks so cute in her little skirt and tights.....lol! Not to mention the cute walker!

That was fun tonight! Hopefully we can get together another night, play games and have the daddy's keep the kids!!! Whoa..can we say "CRAZY" but it's great and if it weren't we might think something was wrong!

Oh, little Reecy! She is so beautiful! That's great that she made so much progress already. She looks so cute in her little tights and skirt! You can do it Reece!

I am actually impressed she is using that walker just how it's supposed to be used. I think it looks confusing for a kid her age, especially when she has to wear shoes she hates! Poor little girl! But she does look super cute still, even in her sad picture when she's falling over. And what is up with kids having to have braces twice now? I don't think I knew anyone when I was a kid who had braces more than once. Jackson looks so grown up and cute with his though!
