Tornados and...Beavers???

So we had a very exciting day! At about 3:10 p.m. I was on the phone with Heather when I heard the tornado sirens go off. I was very busy folding laundry so I looked out the window, didn't see any funnell clouds so I just continued on with my business. In the mean time Heather and I discussed how long the sirens go off for (don't know), how long I would have to hunker down in the basement for (don't know) and where I would go in my basement (underneath my staircase). So anyways, a little while later Jackson busts in the house and asks if there was a tornado at our house. I said no and he proceeds to tell me about hearing the sirens at school and having to go to their "safe place" and huddle in a ball. Then he said that there was an announcement that there was a tornado in South Plainfield (I live in North Plainfield) I got online and checked the news and found an article about the sightings.

The location on 127th and Essington is like 1/2 a mile from my house. Maybe next time I should make more of an effort to listen and obey the tornado sirens. FYI...if you look on the map you'll see that we're right on the edge of tornado alley.

Now onto the Beavers. Yes, you read that correctly, Beavers. Turns out there are beavers, or a beaver living in the pond behind our house. I think this is most hilarious because who knew that a beaver would set up shop in the middle of Plainfield, Illinois right behind the town Wal-Mart? Unfortunately an actually beaver sighting has yet to occur, but a couple of weeks ago I was doing dishes when I noticed out my kitchen window that a tree had been "chopped" down. I thought it a wee bit suspicious since the tip of where the tree had been "cut" down was pointy, but after looking at it some more I determined that it looked like a beaver had cut it down. (growing up in Canada I have seen many a tree that had been chopped down by a Beaver) I quickly dismissed that thought though because it sounded so ridiculous. After a few days I noticed another tree had gone down and then another and then another, until about 6 or 7 trees had suspiciously been chopped down. So it turns out that my neighbors contacted our Homeowners Association about it and they have confirmed that the victim trees had been taken down by beavers and that they would send out animal control to trap them and take them away! We have no trees in our backyard so we think its hilarious, but I guess other people who have houses that back up onto the pond are freaking out that their yard trees are going to be the next casualties of the Plainfield Beaver! I actually think that they're gone though since I haven't noticed anymore tree stumps around the pond. Enjoy the pictures that I took. These are just the 3 I can see from my kitchen window. There are more around the whole pond! Like I said, I wish we could've actually seen one, but apparantly they're somewhat nocturnal.

You are so special! The tornado sirens go off and you don't do anything? Geez! But I can't say that I wouldn't have done the same. I'm glad you didn't get sucked up into the funnel and dropped in the land of Oz. As for the beaver, that is totally funny! Is it using the trees to make a dam or is it cutting them down, "Ees for fun!"

that is hilarious! the part about the beavers, not the tornados. "say, that's swell!" i've seen lady and the tramp way too many times.

Ok that is like my worst nightmare. Tornados scare the crap out of me and I don't even live near any! That is partly why we didn't choose Palmer Chiro in Iowa! It's funny that you totally weren't phased by the sirens though...I would have been grabbing some snacks and making the trek to the basement for the rest of the week! And...I love Beavers! I found a baby Beaver once on vacation, it had been abandon by it's mother because it was sick. It was so sad. And yes, it died at the vet's office I dropped it off at.

I'll take my earthquakes over tornados any day! I love that you didn't do anything about it though - I think Lindsay is completely right.

That is scary! I don't think I've ever actually heard a tornado siren but I'm sure if I did I would be running for cover. The beaver story is funny though. Good pictures of the stumps they left behind. Did they take down a whole tree in one night?

I was listening to the news about the tornadoes and wondered if you were in harms way. Apparently so, but at least you were too oblivious to stress out over it. But don't get killed. As for the beavers, I went beaver hunting once. My parents had several on their porperty, destroying all their trees. So we set out one evening to take care of them. I only took one shot, and of course I missed. My dad was the only one to get any. It soon was pitch black, except for our spotlight, and I was freaked out about walking by the creek. I thought for sure a beaver would jump up and start gnawing on my leg. I'm such a wimp. But they kept slapping their tails on the water at us, and it was scary for me. A fun adventure, though!

So since I didn't read your blog before we left for Florida I'm so sad we didn't get to talk about it. Nice one about the tornado. Next time "hunker down" please. Maybe even have a "tornado kit" in your basement with some food, water, first aid and of course an extra "ming ming".
Onto the Beavers! This is the most Hilarious story ever. "The Mystery of the Chopped Down Trees". The best part is the tizzy the neighbors were probably in about their trees being the next victims! Too bad you didn't get to see the things at work.
Oh by the way, missing you lots!! I'm getting my blog prepared and will be posting our Disney Trip soon!LOVE YOU
